The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surveyor to join our team. As a Surveyor, you will be responsible for providing accurate and reliable surveying services on a major Main Roads project.
Reporting to the Survey Manager, the Surveyor will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery, coordination and quality control of surveying activities on site, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and construction crews.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in civil construction, roads and earthworks and be capable of working autonomously to ensure construction activities are accurately set out, measured, recorded and delivered in accordance with project requirements.
This is a hands-on site-based role suited to a surveyor who understands construction and can provide practical surveying solutions to the project team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake accurate and timely survey set-out for civil and road construction activities, including earthworks, drainage, pavements, structures, concrete and associated infrastructure.
- Establish, maintain and verify project survey control networks, including horizontal and vertical control.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, digital terrain models and construction documentation to determine survey requirements.
- Create, manage and maintain survey models and digital data for construction set-out and machine control.
- Undertake survey checks and quality control to verify construction works comply with design requirements, tolerances and project specifications.
- Complete as-constructed surveys, including preparation and interpretation of survey data and as-constructed plans.
- Undertake quantity and volume calculations, including verification of design quantities and measurement of materials placed.
- Prepare and maintain survey records, field notes, reports and project survey documentation.
- Identify discrepancies between design, existing conditions and construction and communicate these to the project team.
- Provide technical surveying advice to Engineers, Supervisors and Project Management.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of project survey procedures, standards and quality requirements.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders where required in relation to surveying activities.
- Assist with the development and implementation of efficient surveying and machine-control processes.
- Ensure surveying activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with project procedures and relevant legislation.
The successful applicant will have:
Essential
- Diploma or higher qualification in Surveying or Spatial Science, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Demonstrated experience as a construction/site surveyor on civil infrastructure, roadworks or earthworks projects.
- Strong practical experience in construction set-out, survey control and construction verification.
- Experience with earthworks, subgrade, pavement, drainage and road construction.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, survey data and digital models.
- Strong understanding of construction surveying tolerances, quality requirements and as-constructed documentation.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and manage competing survey priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and construction crews.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and accuracy.
Desirable
- Experience on Main Roads WA or other major road infrastructure projects.
- Experience with machine control and guidance systems, including Topcon, Leica or Trimble.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, 12d, Trimble Business Centre, Topcon, Leica or equivalent survey/design software.
- Experience developing and maintaining machine-control models.
