The Role 

Our team is expanding! We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our growing team in Subiaco WA. Reporting to the Executive General Manager Corporate Services, this role will provide commercial advice and support by collaborating closely with business unit personnel and promoting strategic decision-making, aiming to reduce commercial risk and optimise financial outcomes.

 

Beginning with engagement in the pre-contract phase, overseeing the contract lifecycle from negotiation, providing continuous support across all contract management facets, including dispute management.

 

The position will also provide crucial oversight of governance supporting commercial and contractual processes, driving business growth in alignment with SRG Global’s objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participation in client and supplier precontract activities, including risk assessment, commercial/contract review, and negotiation/execution.
  • Provide oversight and support throughout the project and contract management lifecycle, including managing material claims and disputes.
  • Oversee engagement and management of material subcontractors.
  • Support the development and delivery of commercial and contract training for key internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure implementation of risk management systems to proactively identify and monitor commercial (and financial) risks within business units, ensuring management's understanding of risk exposure.
  • Promote robust commercial controls, addressing areas of significant exposure.
  • Identify and implement process and control improvements in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external parties, including clients and suppliers.
  • Conduct proper financial/commercial evaluations for significant capital expenditures, business initiatives, and major repairs and maintenance programs to ensure their viability and compliance with the Group’s Delegation of Authority.
  • Support business unit leadership in developing annual budgets/forecasts within Group-established processes and timelines.
  • Identify financial and commercial trends and anomalies, working with business units to develop and implement corrective initiatives.

 

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Legal, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or similar field.
  • Thorough understanding of contracting, especially within civil, construction and resources contexts.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and organisational skills.
  • Proven track record of strong commercial/business acumen.
  • Highly developed analytical capabilities.
  • Extensive experience with cost modelling, CAPEX analysis.
  • Strong personality backed by the confidence and ability to effectively manage and adapt to various stakeholders.
